Sanwo-Olu orders manhunt, prosecution of Lagos bridge vandals

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered security agencies in the state to hunt down and prosecute criminals responsible for vandalising the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
Reacting to the incident in a statement posted on X by the Lagos State Government on Friday, Sanwo-Olu described the act as a direct assault on the state’s socio-economic assets, warning that his administration would enforce zero tolerance against destruction of public property.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” Sanwo-Olu was quoted as saying.
The statement noted that anyone who is found to be culpable in the “horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident” will face the law.
Reassuring commuters and residents on the safety of the critical transport link, the governor confirmed that technical assessments carried out by state engineers showed no compromise to the core engineering framework.
“I have been informed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who visited the bridge that the structural integrity of the bridge is intact and remedial work will be executed immediately to protect the columns,” the governor said.
Stressing the collective responsibility required to safeguard civic infrastructure, the governor called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public utilities.
“Lagos has no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against our critical infrastructure and other facilities. Lagosians are enjoined to keep an eye on public facilities to protect them against senseless attacks,” the statement concluded.
PUNCH reports that the state recently apprehended 27 suspects linked to the vandalism of the bridge during a midnight enforcement operation.
