A lawyer and member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kalu Kalu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over allegations concerning his academic qualifications.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Kalu claimed it had become an “established fact” that the president does not possess primary and secondary school certificates, urging Tinubu to publicly present the documents to end the controversy.
“We have gone beyond the issue of allegation and accusation. It is an established fact that Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not have a primary school certificate and a secondary school certificate,” he said.
Kalu argued that if the president made his certificates public, the issue would be resolved.
“If he says it’s an allegation, if he says it’s an accusation, let him come out and tell Nigerians, ‘This is my primary school certificate. This is my secondary school certificate.’ This matter will stop,” he added.
The lawyer recalled that the issue was first raised in 1999 by the late legal icon Gani Fawehinmi, saying the case reached the Supreme Court but was dismissed on what he described as technical grounds.
He further noted that the controversy resurfaced during the 2023 presidential election and has again become a subject of public debate in 2026.
According to Kalu, it is high time the president addressed the matter by disclosing his academic credentials.
“Is it not high time Mr President came up and let Nigerians know, ‘This is who I am. This is my primary school certificate. This is my secondary school certificate.’ We settle this issue once and for all,” he said.
He maintained that Tinubu should step down from office, saying, “This is the time Bola Ahmed Tinubu should resign and leave office, for crying out loud. Why are we repeating this issue?”
President Tinubu has previously maintained that he met the constitutional requirements to contest the presidency, while courts have dismissed legal challenges to his qualification. The presidency has also consistently defended his eligibility for office.
