Costco’s newest item has fueled debate among shoppers.
The retailer is now selling buttermilk biscuits in its bakery section. A 10-count package costs about $6.99, depending on location.
Laura Jayne Lamb, who runs the Instagram account @costcohotfinds, shared the discovery. In her video, Lamb breaks apart a biscuit to show her followers the texture, which appears to be partly flaky and a bit crumbly.
Customers took notice and were quick to scrutinize the new offering, with one person writing that the biscuits “look dryer than the Sahara.”
“Them biscuits look dry enough to use as car tires,” one person commented on the video while another agreed, “Biscuits look like I can scrub my feet with them… I’ll pass!!”
“I never understood the fascination with a dry tasteless lump of dough,” someone else wrote.
Others noted that biscuits can be easily made at home.
“I love Costco AND biscuits are one of the easiest (and cheapest) things to make. Let’s re-normalize making the things we can,” someone commented as another fan chimed in, “Biscuits are butter salt milk flour and baking powder – take 5 mins to make from scratch and 10ish mins to bake – yall really need to learn to cook.”
“Probably only good if you buy that day. Everybody knows next biscuits are not good,” someone else wrote.
Still, some Costco shoppers were excited by Lamb’s discovery.
“These make me want to make biscuits and gravy!!” someone commented while another declared, “OMGGGG I absolutely need TO TRY these I am #1 biscuit lover.”
The biscuits aren’t the only new item to hit Costco shelves this year. The retailer recently started selling Australian fan-favorite sweet treat Tim Tams in bulk.
While the brand has expanded to include different flavors since first launching in 1964, Costco members can score the original Tim Tams in a six-sleeve box containing 66 cookies for $14.
Costco also announced a major change to a popular bakery item earlier this year.
For years, Costco’s bakery has sold its Kirkland Signature bagels in two packs of six for $5.99. Many customers have complained about the packaging as it meant they had no choice but to buy 12 bagels regardless of their household size.
However, Costco members have noticed that some shops now offer a single bag of eight bagels for $4.99. In April, the Costco Buys Instagram account, which posts tips for shopping at the retailer, shared a video of the new bagel pack at their local stores.
