A dad of five who attacked his pregnant partner has been jailed for 30 months.
David MacAulay, 45, admitted assaulting the woman at their home in Shiel Gardens, Shotts, on October 23 last year.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard she was nine weeks pregnant at the time.
She suffered bruising and swelling to the top of her head, but the unborn baby was not affected.
Daisy Bentley, prosecuting, said the couple had been in an on-off relationship for five years.
The assault happened around 9pm after an argument.
Ms Bentley told the court: “Due to the accused’s behaviour the woman went into the bathroom to remove herself from the situation.
“She was on the phone to her daughter when the accused entered the bathroom.
“He grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into the hallway then threw a speaker that hit her on the head.
“He slapped her on the arm and dragged her by the hair to the front door to try to force her out of the house.
“She managed to get away from him, got back to the bathroom and called 999.
“When police officers arrived they saw she was distressed and had a lump on her head.”
Defence agent Bobby Reid said MacAulay “completely regrets” what he did.
Mr Reid stated: “This appalling behaviour followed a drink-fuelled argument. He has struggled with alcohol misuse over the years and that has resulted in offending behaviour.”
Sheriff John Hamilton KC said MacAulay’s record was “dreadful” and he had served prison sentences in the past.
The sheriff added: “This was outrageous violence towards your partner.”
MacAulay was also handed a three-year non-harassment order.
