UK defence chiefs have rejected calls for a major probe into Scottish UFO sightings, saying no report has ever posed a military threat.
The Ministry of Defence penned an official response to paranormal investigators in Scotland – just days after the US government released a fourth tranche of records regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs).
Earlier this year, the Pentagon released scores of UFO files, with descriptions of reported sightings of orbs, discs and fireballs spanning 80 years.
Scots experts demanded the UK follow suit in declassifying files on “unusual aerial objects” following a series of bizarre incidents in and around Stirlingshire and Falkirk, which saw the area branded a world UFO hotspot three decades ago.
But the Ministry of Defence has told Scots author Malcolm Robinson it has no plans to follow the US or resume research after ceasing to investigate reports of UFO or UAP almost two decades ago.

It added that defence resources instead “remain focused on activities that directly support national security”.
The letter, signed off by an’ MoD Air Policy Secretariat’, said: “Whilst we note your interest in this matter, the Ministry of Defence has no opinion on the existence of either extra-terrestrials, Unidentified Flying Objects or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.
“In over 50 years, no sighting reported to the Department has indicated the existence of any military threat to the United Kingdom and it is deemed more valuable to prioritise MOD staff towards other Defence-related activities. For this reason, MOD ceased to investigate reports of UFO or UAP in 2009.
“All MOD files relating to UFOs that were created up until 2009 have been released to The National Archives.
“We would however like to reassure you that the UK air defence community continuously monitors UK airspace to maintain a complete ‘recognised air picture’ as part of the national security posture and our commitment to the integrity of NATO airspace, allowing us to deter, track and react if necessary to any credible threats to the UK and its civilians.”
During the 1990s, a wave of sightings involving mysterious objects across central Scotland became known as the Falkirk Triangle, drawing global interest.

Worried residents organised a public gathering in January 1993.
Footage, images and testimonies kept surfacing, though the phenomenon faced claims of hoaxing.
Robinson, who has authored several books on the subject, has attempted to convince multiple former prime ministers, along Bonnybridge councillor Billy Buchanan, to launch an official investigation into mysterious sightings throughout Scotland.
The pair have pursued leads and painstakingly cross-referenced aviation, military and police files to rule out explainable factors but say they instead “faced ridicule” and dismissal.
They recently penned a recent letter to former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, asking: “Why is Westminster unwilling to examine a subject that has attracted serious attention from our closest ally?”
Last month, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said that long-classified files had historically fuelled “justified speculation” around UFOs, saying the American people had a right to see the information for themselves.

After receiving the MOD’s response in recent days, Robinson now plans to take the case for transparency to new PM Andy Burnham.
He said: “As a researcher, this is deeply disappointing. While the US Government, the Pentagon, and NASA have held public forums on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) entering their airspace – treating them as a serious national security consideration – the MoD maintains that it has no interest in further studying the subject.
“While it is reassuring that the MoD continually monitors British airspace for threats, their official stance leaves us with two possibilities: either they are quietly investigating behind closed doors with a dedicated team, or they are simply refusing to follow America’s lead in being open with the public.
“Having petitioned multiple Prime Ministers over the years demanding answers, it often feels as though no amount of public pressure will shake the tree of power. However, with Andy Burnham now as Prime Minister, perhaps one final throw of the dice is in order.
“I urge our new Prime Minister to launch a government inquiry into UFOs over British airspace and, like the US, finally show transparency regarding an enigma that clearly demands answers.”
