Vehicle charges for two major London tunnels to be increased

Blackwall Tunnel charge: Everything you need to know about car tolls on new Thames tunnel
  • Transport for London (TfL) has announced that charges for vehicles using the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels will increase from 21 September.
  • Peak charges for cars and small vans will rise by five per cent to £4.20, while off-peak charges will increase by 5p to £1.55.
  • Heavy goods vehicles will see a five per cent increase, paying £5.25 during off-peak hours and £10.50 during peak times.
  • Drivers who fail to pay the charge will face a penalty of £180, reduced to £90 if paid within the first two weeks.
  • TfL states the charges are intended to manage traffic levels, repay construction costs for the new Silvertown Tunnel, and cover maintenance, with the tunnel already showing reduced congestion and improved air quality.
