Lucy Punch has been a familiar face on screen since 2010, and is well known for walking the fine line of playing characters who are badly behaved but too funny to hate.

Although her face would be instantly recognised from her long-running career in telly, not much is known about Lucy’s real life, as she has managed to keep a surprising degree of separation between her professional and personal spheres.

The star, 48, dazzled fans in a shimmering black sequin gown in a rare public appearance at the BAFTAs tonight. Lucy is currently back on screens in the BBC’s Amandaland, the spin-off of hit comedy Motherland, where she is reprising her role as the alpha mum Amanda.

The series follows the posh single mum as she navigates life post-divorce in London’s fictional SoHa while trying to raise teenagers, work on her lifestyle brand, and do justice to her new role at Kitchens, Bathrooms, and Kitchens.

While audiences know plenty about Amanda’s fictional life, very few fans know the actress’s husband’s identity, or are even aware that she has two sons. Here is what we do know about Lucy Punch.

Lucy was born in Hammersmith in West London to market research executives Johanna and Michael Punch. She attended the prestigious Godolphin and Latymer School, which boasts famous alumni such as ITV ’s Davina McCall and celeb chef Nigella Lawson.

After finishing school, Lucy started studying history at University College London. However, she left the course early to pursue acting full-time. The actress honed her craft at the National Youth Theatre during the 1990s.

Her professional acting career began in 1998 with a role as Queen Stephanie in an episode of The New Adventures of Robin Hood. Over the years she has appeared in a wide range of popular shows including Let Them Eat Cake, Midsomer Murders, Doc Martin, and Poirot.

She has also been featured in films such as Ella Enchanted, Hot Fuzz, St Trinian’s, Bad Teacher, and Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, which she later confessed she regrets playing a part in.

Her performances have earned her industry-wide recognition. Lucy won the Best Actress award at the Monaco International Film Festival for her role in Are You Ready for Love? and later shared a Best Ensemble award for the musical film Into the Woods.

While Lucy has never publicly confirmed who her husband is, she is rumoured to be married to an artist called Konstantinos Chapman, otherwise known as Dinos.

Dinos, 64, previously was a part of the provocative British art duo The Chapman Brothers, alongside his brother, Jake. The pair ended their creative partnership in 2022, with Dinos later telling The Guardian: “Nothing about our practice was amicable. It was never a love-in. It was always tinged with a certain seething disdain for each other so I guess at some point that reached critical mass, and we decided to go our separate ways.”

Lucy and Dinos are said to have met in Hollywood, where they now live with their two young sons. The actress has also decided against publicly reveal the names of her children.

While the Motherland star doesn’t often open up about what her family life is like, she previously told The Times that being married to a creative person has helped when it comes to splitting parenting duties in a non-traditional manner, saying: “We don’t have normal jobs so we can, in a very mismanaged, chaotic way, divide up childcare.”

The Punch family are based in Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles, though Lucy says she has never quite settled in one place. In the same interview with The Times, she admitted: “I’ve always got one foot out the door, wherever I am. I never got round to getting a green card.

“I’m on these rolling visas, which is ridiculous. I have a home there and I have two American children. But I can’t commit to anywhere. I get itchy feet. I like being a little bit here and a little bit there.”

Earlier this year, Lucy and her family were among the A-listers who were forced to evacuate their homes when wildfires swept across Los Angeles, leaving destruction in their wake.

When speaking about the experience to The Independent, she revealed that she tried to shield her children from the stress of the situation.

She explained that one of her sons thought they were just on holiday and was having a blast, adding: “Meanwhile, we’d been looking at our phones going ‘help’ and crying.

“It’s such a small window when you’re a kid, so I’m just trying to make it magical until they’re confirmed with teenagerdom and the reality of life.”
