Brits packing up for sunny holidays will be relieved as an airport ‘fuel shortage’ has been resolved. This follows Gatwick Airport announcing a jet fuel warning to pilots, which could have affected departing flights.
Airlines at risk included British Airways, easyJet, Wizz Air, TUI, and Jet2 according to DailyStar.
However, this morning (August 3), a spokesman for Gatwick said: “Following a temporary technical issue yesterday that impacted fuel supply to the airport, we are pleased to report that the issue has now been resolved.
“Fuel is flowing as expected, all airlines are operating as normal and passengers should continue to travel as planned. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
Reportedly no flights were cancelled because of the fault. Earlier this year there were fears that the Iran oil crisis could result in major jet fuel shortages affecting summer flights, but there has been no widespread disruption.
Gatwick is the UK’s second busiest airport, with 42.8 million passengers last year.
The initial announcement sent out by Gatwick warned airlines: “For the attention of all crews: Gatwick has a shortage of fuel for the next two days. Please uplift max possible fuel at outstations.”
British Airways and other long-haul flight carriers were possibly at risk as some flights departed prior to the announcement being made.
