  • Liberian authorities burned 4.2 metric tons of cocaine, valued at $336 million, following the country’s largest-ever drug seizure.
  • High-ranking police officials, including the chief of highway patrol and head of the major crimes unit, face charges for allegedly escorting the illicit drugs.
  • The massive haul, totaling nearly 4 metric tons (8,818 pounds) with an estimated street value of $317 million, was recovered during a raid in Duazon, near Monrovia.
  • Two foreign nationals, a Serbian and a dual Colombian-Spanish national, were arrested at the scene and are currently being questioned. Investigators identified officers allegedly involved in escorting the cocaine after its arrival.
  • The seizures highlight West Africa‘s growing role as a major transit route for cocaine trafficked from South America to Europe, with at least 30% of Europe-bound cocaine now passing through the region.
