Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s daughter Suri has reportedly dropped her famous surname as she prepares to begin her third year at university in Pittsburgh.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the 20-year-old student, who is attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has legally changed her surname from Cruise to Noelle, her mother’s middle name, according to voter registration records.

It was first reported in 2024 that Suri was going by a different surname when she graduated high school, with “Suri Noelle” listed in the graduation pamphlet at LaGuardia High School in Manhattan.

Cruise and Suri are believed to be estranged; the Mission: Impossible star has not been seen in public with his daughter since he and Holmes divorced in 2012.

The former couple met in 2005 and welcomed Suri a year later, then got married in 2006 in a ceremony in Italy. Holmes filed for divorce after in June 2012, after five years of marriage.

Page Six reports that Suri is registered to vote in the state of Pennsylvania. She is about to begin her junior year at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

The Independent has contacted Cruise and Holmes’s representatives for comment.

Holmes spoke of her pride over Suri’s achievements in an interview with Town & Country in 2024, as her daughter prepared to set off for college.

“Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” the Dawson’s Creek star said. “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”

Cruise did not attend Suri’s high school graduation. Just hours later, he was spotted at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour show at Wembley Stadium in London, where he traded friendship bracelets with fans and rubbed shoulders with fellow stars including Mila Kunis, Hugh Grant and director Greta Gerwig.

Reports of Suri’s name change come just a week after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s youngest daughter Vivienne made a formal request to drop her father’s surname.

Vivienne filed the paperwork in Los Angeles County Superior Court on her 18th birthday to make her legal name Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

In documents obtained by People, the couple’s daughter Zahara made the same filing in June, days after her brother Maddox also filed to remove “Pitt” from his surname.

Jolie, 51, and Pitt, 62, share six children together: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18.

Shiloh, a dancer and the couple’s first biological child, was the first of the six siblings to be granted a name change on her 18th birthday in 2024. She now goes by Shiloh Jolie.

At the time, her lawyer said in a statement shared with People that she made “an independent and significant decision following painful events”.
