Erhabor eager for WAFCON experience

Portsmouth goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor has expressed excitement ahead of a possible competitive debut in Nigeria’s opening Women’s Africa Cup of Nations match against Malawi, an appearance that would cap-tie her to the Super Falcons, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Erhabor, who is presently eligible to represent three countries through her Nigerian parentage, her birth in the Netherlands and her upbringing in England, will become tied to Nigeria if she features at the 2026 WAFCON.

Speaking to the Super Falcons media team, she revealed her emotions after receiving her first senior call-up, admitting she had initially been nervous about the opportunity.

“I straight away called my mom and I told her about my call up. I was a bit nervous because I did not really know what to expect. But I am excited to step into the experience,” she said.

The young goalkeeper also expressed delight at training alongside Super Falcons first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, whom she considers one of her biggest inspirations in the game.

“It feels unreal, that is probably one of the people I really looked the most up to in women’s football. To get to train alongside her and learn from her, it is something really special,” she said, adding that Nnadozie and former Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer were her two biggest role models.

Nigeria will begin their WAFCON campaign against Malawi as they aim to reclaim the title and secure a record-extending tenth championship, having completed a dramatic three-two comeback win over hosts Morocco in the previous final.
