The referee who took charge of the 2026 World Cup final, Slavko Vincic, has announced his retirement.
This comes only a week after the tournament ended in North America.
The Slovenian official has been widely criticized for his handling of Argentina’s physical approach as they lost 1-0 to Spain.
Vincic sent off Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez just before extra time.
FIFA has already begun investigation into scenes after the game, where both players and coaches from the two teams clashed.
Confirming Vincic’s departure, the Slovenian Football Association released a statement saying: “A week after the World Cup final in the USA, Slavko Vincic officially concluded his historic refereeing career at the top of the world.”
