Parents launch legal action after British student killed by boat propeller
- The parents of British student Jenna Chan are seeking justice nearly two years after her death during a school trip to the Maldives.
- Jenna, 15, died on 8 November 2024 after being struck by a boat propeller during a whale shark excursion organised by St Joseph’s Institution International Ltd and a UK-registered charity.
- Her parents, Dr Jennifer Liauw and Alan Chan, have filed a lawsuit alleging that the Singapore-based school failed to ensure safety, vet the excursion properly, and has refused accountability.
- They claim the school showed a lack of transparency and empathy, including sending an email about trip activities with Jenna’s photos after her death was known.
- St Joseph’s Institution International Ltd denies the allegations, saying that the boat captain was responsible for the incident and that they are defending the claim in the Singapore High Court.
