Former Argentina international, Angel Di Maria, has urged Lionel Messi to delay his retirement from international football after the Albiceleste’s World Cup final defeat to Spain last weekend.
Di Maria described Messi as the best player in history, adding that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner can still play for the national team for many more years.
“Yes, Leo should continue for as long as he wants. I think he can keep going for many more years,” Di Maria told TNT Sports (via Mundo Albiceleste).
“At 39 years old, he’s proven he is one of the best and still the best in history, with no ceiling,” the former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger added.
Di Maria played alongside Messi for several years in the national team, and they won both the Copa America and the World Cup together in the past.
