New Army divisions will enhance counterterrorism efforts – NGF

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has said the creation of four new divisions of the Nigerian Army by President Bola Tinubu will enhance the country’s counterterrorism and anti-banditry efforts.
The NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, stated this in a statement personally signed by him on Friday.
While commending Tinubu for approving the creation of the new divisions across the country, the forum described the development as the largest single expansion of the Nigerian Army in modern history.
It added that the initiative demonstrated the President’s renewed commitment to protecting lives and property.
The forum also welcomed the President’s approval for the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel into the Nigerian Army and the acquisition of more critical military assets.
According to the NGF, the measures will strengthen the country’s counterterrorism and anti-banditry operations.
“We wholeheartedly welcome this development, including the President’s approval for the Army to hire 28,000 new personnel and acquire more critical military assets.
“We are confident that this initiative will enhance the government’s counterterrorism and anti-banditry efforts,” the statement read partly.
The NGF chairman said the creation of the new divisions was a bold step that would improve the capacity of the military to respond to security threats across the country.
The forum pledged its continued support for and collaboration with the President on national security and other issues of national development.
The governors also urged Nigerians to support the government and security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist security operations.
“The Forum again urges citizens to continue to support government and security forces to strengthen security in every part of the country, including giving timely information to the security agencies,” the statement added.
