  • Axel Rudakubana, the Southport killer, has been transferred from prison to the high-security Broadmoor psychiatric hospital, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.
  • Officials approved the move, but a departmental spokesperson stressed it does not alter his 52-year sentence.
  • The transfer comes just days before the second anniversary of Rudakubana’s attack on 29 July 2024, which tragically killed three girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. His relocation from Belmarsh, a Category A prison, was first reported by The Guardian.
  • Such moves to secure psychiatric units are typically for offenders with mental disorders who cannot be safely managed in a prison environment.
  • In these facilities, individuals are treated as patients, not prisoners.
