The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave, with the Deputy Governor, Adebayo Lawal, set to oversee the affairs of the state during the period.

According to the letter, Makinde’s leave will begin on August 10 and end on September 11, 2026, while he is expected to resume official duties on September 14, 2026.

The approval followed the consideration of a letter from the governor during plenary, in compliance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, which requires a governor to notify the State House of Assembly before proceeding on leave or being absent from office.

The letter was read by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary in the absence of the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.

Following deliberations, the lawmakers unanimously approved the request and expressed confidence in the deputy governor’s ability to ensure the smooth running of government during Makinde’s absence.
