Mexican man killed by truck after ICE encounter was visiting US legally, reports say

  • Juan Jairo Coronilla Durán, a 28-year-old Mexican national, was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer in St. Augustine, Florida, last Tuesday.
  • Coronilla Durán was reportedly running from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations agents when he ran into a busy road.
  • According to his wife and a farmworker non-profit, Coronilla Durán was in the U.S. on a valid tourist visa and had a flight booked to return to Mexico.
  • The Department of Homeland Security confirmed an incident involving a Mexican national’s death and stated that the Florida Highway Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations have launched a probe.
  • Coronilla Durán’s death follows two other recent incidents in July where ICE agents fatally shot Mexican and Colombian nationals during encounters.
