Former Spain defender, Sergio Ramos, was captured on camera consoling Lionel Messi following the 2026 World Cup final on Sunday.

La Roja achieved a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time, with Ferran Torres netting the decisive goal in the 106th minute.

In the aftermath of Argentina’s defeat in the final, Sergio Ramos was seen providing consolation to Argentine captain, Lionel Messi.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner appeared utterly heartbroken after the loss, yet Ramos made sure that the 39-year-old received the respect he rightfully deserved.

Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos have a rich history, having competed against each other as fierce rivals for 16 years.

Messi was a key player for the Barcelona team, while Ramos served as the star defender for Real Madrid, leading to numerous intense encounters between them.

However, the two players became teammates at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2021, playing together at the Parc des Princes for two seasons. They faced off as opponents on 45 occasions and collaborated as teammates on 44 occasions.

Even at 39 years of age, Messi had an outstanding 2026 tournament, nearly single-handedly leading Argentina to the final. The Inter Miami superstar scored eight goals and provided four assists throughout the tournament.

Argentina was thoroughly outperformed by Spain in the final, with the 1-0 scoreline not fully reflecting Spain’s dominance.

They held 65% possession, took 20 shots, and had 32 touches in the opposition’s penalty area, while Argentina managed only two shots and eight touches within Spain’s penalty box.
