Atletico Madrid CEO, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, has said the LaLiga club doesn’t want to sell Julian Alvarez and would not even accept £170m (€200m) for the forward.
In a video message posted on the club’s social media channels, Gil Marin directly addressed Barcelona president Joan Laporta after his public comments about Alvarez.
Gil Marin said: “My position is clear. The club’s intention is clear.
“We have made it known to the player, the fans, and the Barcelona president.
“I have no doubt that Atletico is the right place in the world for Julian and that Julian is the perfect centre-forward for Atletico Madrid.
“We want him to stay with us.
“I recently heard comments from the president that the offer he had made to Atletico Madrid was not unlimited, and the only possible response is that our answer certainly is.
“We do not want to sell him and we did not accept the €100m offer, nor would we accept one of €150m or €200m.”
Alvarez’s contract at Atletico includes a £426m (€500m) release clause.
