Borno abduction: Troops rescue nine more victims

Troops of the 82 Division Task Force under Operation HADIN KAI have rescued nine abductees, including women and children, during separate patrol operations around Armuda Bridge in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The development was disclosed in a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analyst covering the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, the rescues were carried out on July 14 during routine military patrols around the Armuda Bridge area, where troops rescued abductees who had reportedly escaped from terrorist captivity.

Makama reported that the first rescue occurred at about 6:00am, when troops conducting a perimeter patrol spotted three frightened children running towards their position near the bridge.

The children were identified as Aisha Saleh, 11year old, Ummi Haruna, 12year old and Hauwa Ali, 9year old.

“Troops secured the area before rescuing them and escorting them to safety,” the report stated.

Makama further reported that at about 3:00pm, the same day, troops on another routine patrol rescued Jamila Danfo, 15year old, after she was seen running towards a military position.

According to the report, troops searched the surrounding area to rule out any immediate security threat before evacuating the teenager.

Preliminary investigations, Makama said, indicated that the rescued children were from the Agapalawa general area and had reportedly escaped from terrorist captivity before encountering the troops.

The report said the latest operation brings the total number of abductees rescued through the military’s East Corridor operations to 104, as troops continue clearance missions across parts of Borno State.
