Taylor Swift’s attorneys fire back against ‘absurd’ lawsuit over showgirl trademark

Taylor Swift‘s lawyers have responded to a lawsuit from Maren Wade, owner of the “Confessions of a Showgirl” franchise, calling the claim of brand confusion “absurd.”
Wade, whose real name is Maren Flagg, filed the lawsuit in California, alleging trademark infringement, false designation, and unfair competition against Swift and UMG Recordings.
Swift’s legal team argues that Wade is attempting to leverage Swift’s name to promote her own brand, noting Wade’s increased social media activity linking her brand to Swift’s album since its announcement.
Wade is seeking unspecified damages and a court order to prevent Swift from using the album title The Life of a Showgirl.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office previously declined Swift’s application for The Life of a Showgirl trademark, citing its confusing similarity to Wade’s existing trademark.
