A three year old British boy has tragically died after falling from a fourth-floor hotel corridor window while playing with his father during a family holiday in Cyprus.
The boy’s 37-year-old father was arrested following the incident near Chloraka on Sunday evening. The family had only arrived for their summer break the previous day.
Emergency services rushed to the scene before transporting the child to Paphos General Hospital.
Police were alerted to the fall at approximately 6:40pm on Sunday, and the toddler subsequently succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The family’s five-year-old daughter is also with them on the holiday.
It’s understood the boy fell through an open corridor window at the hotel. The father was reportedly arrested on suspicion of causing death by a reckless, negligent or dangerous act, neglect of duty as the head of a family, and failing in his responsibility as a person having care of another, reports the Daily Star.
He appeared before the court this morning.
In a separate incident, a young child has died after being struck by a vehicle in a UK village. Emergency services attended Nottingham Road in Gotham, Nottinghamshire, at 2.28pm on Sunday, July 12.
Sadly, the four year old girl passed away shortly afterwards in hospital. A 59 year old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been interviewed and released on bail. The inquiry is being spearheaded by officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, who are urging any witnesses or motorists travelling in the area at the time who may have recorded footage on their dash cam to come forward.
Sergeant Paul Clark said: “This is a deeply tragic incident and our thoughts are with the young girl’s loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.
“The circumstances are being investigated and we would ask people not to speculate on social media. I would also ask the privacy of the family is respected as they come to terms with what has happened.
“We’d like to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to please come forward, including anyone with dashcam footage which could help our investigation.
