Brentford have moved to secure the future of highly rated defender Michael Kayode, handing the Italy Under-21 international a new contract that runs until 2032.

Brentford FC officially announced the deal on their website on Friday, confirming that the 21-year-old’s new long-term contract runs until the summer of 2032, with the club holding an option for a further year.

Kayode, who joined the Bees from Fiorentina initially on loan in January 2025 before making the move permanent, has impressed since arriving in England.

The athletic full-back has made 56 appearances across all competitions, playing a key role in Brentford’s solid 2025/26 campaign that ended with a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League. He was also nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

Brentford head coach, Keith Andrews, hailed the youngster’s progress.

“Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive.

“He’s someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach.

“We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved,” Andrews said.

The former Juventus youth product began his career in Italy, enjoying a notable spell at Serie D side Gozzano before joining Fiorentina.

He made his Serie A debut in 2023 and featured regularly for the Viola, including in their run to the UEFA Conference League final in 2024.

Since moving to West London, Kayode has quickly established himself.

He scored his first goal for Brentford with a header against Wolves and contributed significantly in both league and cup competitions.

As an Italy Under-21 international, he is viewed as one of Europe’s brightest young right-backs.

The announcement drew widespread reactions online, particularly after Brentford shared the news on their social media platforms.

“Smart business from Brentford. Securing one of Europe’s brightest young right-backs for the long term is a massive statement,” #TheFootballCntr posted.

Another user, #Ke_Travy, noted, “Brentford giving Michael Kayode a deal until 2032 tells you everything. They know they’ve got a gem, and they’re not letting him go cheaply.”

Arsenal supporter #Lobi_afc added, “We wanted him at Arsenal, we aren’t perfect in other set pieces” while a Liverpool fan #LFC_Markinho expressed disappointment, lamenting, “Damn, that was my right back choice. No point now as they will want an obscene amount.”

#ogboche5 praised his set-piece threat: “I know that Brentford is not letting him go anytime soon. His long throw-ins are a masterpiece.”

The extension represents a significant coup for Brentford, tying down a key player amid reported interest from bigger clubs. Kayode’s commitment underscores the club’s ambition to build around young talents who have adapted swiftly to the demands of the Premier League.
